Two newly acquired high-tech subsidiaries of a major international corporation relocated their offices to six large, lower level floor plates in a downtown Manhattan building. P+FC addressed the limited exposure to natural light and lack of cohesive firm images in few simple and bold gestures. The existing interior row of double columns were sheathed in white polycarbonate and turned them into over scaled, floor to ceiling light fixtures illuminating the central corridor and public spaces on each floor. Clear translucent plastic laminated with wood plank boards and frosted sliding glass doors were selected for the partition separating the corridors from the private offices located along the exterior to allow natural light into the interior areas. To connect the circulation spines on each floor, internal stair with natural wood treads were set against a multistory polycarbonate partition. Standard wood plank flooring was utilized as a wall finish in the open office area on each floor to create a generous feeling of warmth and vertically unify the spaces on all levels.
